Drakojan Skies for Smartphones in 2013

There have been some new developments regarding the „Drakojan Skies“ reboot. Up until now the game was to be designed with Adobe Flash, and released for free on Adregalus.net. A few background graphics were completed and development was coming along great.

However we gathered a team of talented artists and programmers together, and now it’s going to be official:

We plan on releasing “Drakojan Skies” for smartphones (iPhone, Android, etc) in 2013.

It’s too early to go into details, but it will have classic side-scrolling 2D shoot-em-up gameplay, and will be made entirely in HD 3D/CG graphics. If all goes well expect some big news this summer!

Which Platforms will the game be released on?

Confirmed are: iPhone, Android.
We’re looking into ways of porting the game to PC and other systems as well.

 

Will the Smartphone project be free-to-play?

No. Exact cost is currently undetermined. The “Drakojan Skies” smartphone project is a professional production, requiring development funding and a comprehensive marketing campaign. This is why the game will not be available for free, however there will be a free demo before release.

Sometime in 2013.

 

What has happened to the Flash Version of the “Drakojan Skies” reboot?

Originally the Flash version became the Smartphone version, but now they will indeed be separate productions.

The Flash version will be free-to-play and created entirely by myself, while the Smartphone version will be a professional production, and developed in a team.

While both games will share the same design concepts, it is clear that the Smartphone game will be vastly superior in every way.

One of the main reasons why I'm going to continue the development of the Flash version is to offer everyone without Smartphones the chance to experience the DS reboot as well.

Drakojan Skies – First Look at Stages Two & Three

News updates have been rather slow lately, however if things go as planned, expect some big news in the summer. “Drakojan Skies” is still on track for release, but the date could be pushed back to Summer 2013.

In the meantime, here’s a glance at stages two and three (click on the images to view a comparison between them and previous Drakojan Skies games):

Sorry for the delays, but we rather take the extra time to polish everything and release something really impressive, rather than to rush everything out for the sole purpose of celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Adregalus in November of 2012. Stay tuned!

Drakojan Skies – First Look at Stage One

Here’s the first look at some of the pieces to the first stage of the upcoming “Drakojan Skies” reboot. Click on a thumbnail below for a higher resolution image.

Like all previous Drakojan Skies games, the backgrounds do not repeat, and each stage is split up into 2-3 different locations with a checkpoint after the mid-boss.

Planned are 11 stages in total. With each stage taking up to 1-2 weeks to complete, they should all be done around late March/April. The game is still on track for a November 2012 release.

Drakojan Skies (2012) Logo

Here’s the final “Drakojan Skies” logo for the 2012 reboot.

Story: This is not only the Nachenyu tribe’s faction logo, but also represents the revered and legendary Nachenyu chieftain “Arganyu”, a blue-furred, silver armored guardian, who saved the tribe from almost certain destruction far back in ancient times.

Warriors who receive this pendant are rewarded the title of “Arganyu”, as a symbol of their astonishing contributions to secure the safety and prosperity of the Nachenyu people. This element plays a key role in the game’s story.

“Drakojan Skies” 2013 Game Project + Character Concepts

The 2012 “Drakojan Skies” project is indeed a new game! Details are always subject to change, but for now here’s a small glimpse:

Brief Story Description: “Eight fighter pilots rebel against their own forces to protect those they were sent to destroy, exposing a conspiracy which threatens to unravel the bond between Earth and Ethonia forever.”

Currently planned features:

  • Classic old school 2D Side-Scrolling Shoot-Em-Up Gameplay
  • Chose between 3 ship classes (Scout – Fighter – Bomber)
  • Chose between 3 playable Akeshi classes (Hunter – Warrior – Warlord)
  • Upgradable Primary and Secondary weapons
  • Over 11 large levels with mid-bosses, checkpoints and end stage bosses
  • “Story-Mode” which contains nearly an hour of comic-/RPG-like cutscenes and character dialogue
  • “Arcade-Mode” for those who want to skip all the dialogue and story, and jump right into the action

The earliest release date is expected to be around summer 2013.
