So recently I decided to start writing a story that I've been developing for nearly 10 years. This is the map of the area where the story would take place.

Mind you it's a work in progress and so not everything is set in stone (also why there's no roads, not everything has a name, etc.) so just don't take this thing for the 'final draft'.

This took me 8 hours to make, what with making all the little marks on it and everything.

I understand the text might be a little difficult to read, so feel free to download it if necessary.

The map has a number of different languages used for naming things. No I don't fluently speak languages – google translator comes in handy sometimes.

Languages include:
- Latin (probably the language you'll see used more often than anything else, besides English).
- French
- Swedish
- Finnish

Colors:
Cyan = Good / Light Aligned Area
Yellow = Neutral Area
Orange = Evil / Dark Aligned Area

Excellent map! It looks like it would make for a great boardgame! :D It also reminds me a bit of Tolkien’s work. I love cartography; it really brings a story to life. Sweet Faction logo, too! Looks like some locations are well guarded by the terrain. Poor D'ivoire, it looks like it’s a bit too close to enemy territory.

Gotta love Google Translator, and the text is very clear and easy to read. :] Keep up the great work, and keep the thread informed on the map and story’s progress! It sounds very interesting, and thoughts of Skyrim and Games of Thrones immediately popped in my mind.

Very much inspired by Tolkien's map design. Tolkien's books, the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings are the books I've ever actually read and finished on my own. I'm not a huge fan of reading, though I like writing–don't try to understand how that works.

Also, faction logo? You mean the skull icon? If so, that's not a faction icon, it's a hint that there's some kind of dangerous creature or something in that area. Such as the area at the top left called "Utor Caros' Lair." Utor Caros is latin for "Consume Flesh", so it's basically a creature that's known for eating the flesh off of your very bones.

And yes, some of the locations are indeed very well guarded by the terrain around them. This is especially essential for the story, which I'm making quite the amount of progress with. Also, it may appear that D'Ivoire is very close to enemy territory, but I didn't really place any markers to hint how far distances were. Assuming realistic measurements, the distance between D'Ivoire and Frustra Insula is about half the distance between the United States and Hawaii.

Also as a side note, I won't be uploading any of the written text onto this site, or any site for that matter. Nothing personal, as I'd love to share the story with you folks, but I have a terrible paranoia of content theft. Words are easier to steal than images.

(Ah, it would make a sweet faction logo though, or book cover/poster… ;]) The names sound very original. Haven’t heard anything like them before.

Excellent clarification on the distance, it puts everything into perspective. :D

Perhaps art galleries such as DeviantArt may be worth a look for submitting written work? I’m not sure if it means anything but whenever something is submitted to DA, there’s always a “© YEAR” and then “USERNAME” underneath each submission.

Or, again not sure if it’ll be useful, but perhaps sending your work to you via snail mail may help prove your ownership if anything ever gets stolen (which I haven’t heard of happening before, like someone publishing a book filled with someone else’s work).

In any case, looking forward to seeing how this universe develops! :D
